Rumors about the unique lens cameras from Sony have turned into a reality when the company has officially made it known to all that they’ll soon be available before the month ends. They’re not actually true cameras like point-and-shoot with complete controls and a display but a pair of lens that can be attached to a smartphone device or tablet. Each lensconnects to the device via a Wifi connectivity.
Sony’s entry into the world of cameras has not been widely publicized given the fact that business is generally focused on smartphones, tablets and a video gaming console. A user needs to power on the camera first once it is attached and configure the connectivity through the access point. When the Play Memories Mobile app starts to appear on the device, a user can start shooting and making the necessary adjustments to the controls such as the toggle and shutter release so that zooming and capturing images is even made more convenient and fun.
The cameras also have Memory Stick slots and microSDs for saving images if connection with a tablet or smartphone is not available. The first model is DSC-QX10 which has a compact 10x optic with 18.2Mp and is referred to as the “high-zoom”, while the second is the QX100 with a 20.2-Mp sensor and is good for “quality” focus. The QX10 sells for $249 while the QX1 sells for $750.
