One cool thing that distinguished the news iPhone 5S from its brother is the high-tech fingerprint sensor called Touch ID. The fingerprint scanner was designed for us, humans, to save and protect data on our iPhones just with a touch of our fingers.
However, it turned out that not we can use the new feature. On Friday, a team from TechCrunch released a video that shows how a cat paw is capable of unlocking the new Apple phone. Since releasing their video on September 19, 2013 it has neared 275,000 views.
The video went viral proving that the Touch ID sensor on the new iPhone 5S can read the patterns on a cat’s paw just as easily as it can read your fingerprints, ensuring that none of its feline secrets can be stolen.
“You can register your cat to be able to access your iPhone 5s with paw recognition, if you want to do that for some reason,” TechCrunch said in a YouTube video.
It was noted, however, that no other paws would unlock the device, because cats just like humans have unique and personal “fingerprints”, so this way of securing your iPhone, actually, has a right for living.
“So if you think your pet needs access to your accounts, feel free to register them as one of your five stored Touch ID profiles,” it said.
Darrell Etherington, a writer for the tech news website, said that one of his colleagues, Natasha Lomas, came up with the idea. “I had the phone to review, she had a cat, and said that it was something we could try,” he toldABC News.
He also added: “For the curious, I also tested the 5s fingerprint sensor on the heel of my palm, as well as on the inside of my forearm up around the wrist, and found that I could register and successfully unlock with both skin regions.”
Even though there haven’t been any attacks and hacks at the recently launched iPhones, some have security concerns about the Touch ID sensor.
However, a group of hackers and security researchers have pledged to reward the first successful hacker with $13,000, more than $800 worth of Bitcoin, a pornographic book and a few bottles of wine, tequila, bourbon and whiskey, reports Mashable.
Recently it has been reported that if you leave your iPhone 5S untouched for 48 hours straight, you won’t be able to use the device’s fingerprint scanner to wake it up. Instead, you’ll need to resort to the more traditional method of plugging in your passcode. The same goes for logging into your phone after a reboot.
Nevertheless, nothing can stop tech junkies from their highly desirable toys. People even camped out in front of the Apple Store in Midtown — some saying they had slept in lawn chairs for weeks — to score new iPhones on Friday.
