A next-gen USB connector is coming to town soon and it will be smaller and completely reversible. With a size similar to Micro USB 2.0, the USB Type-C connector is indeed smaller but it can deliver speeds comparable to that of USB 3.1. It is multi-directionally designed to meet the demand for smaller connectors. It can also support future USBs and has a power charging capability that is efficient, according to the USB 3.0 Promoter Group.
It will be the USB 3.1’s supplement which is scheduled for release next summer. The connector basically works in all kinds of orientation eliminating the need for adjusting the cable frequently. The downside associated with using this upcoming connector is its incompatibility with existing USB ports and that means existing users will need to buy something to make it fit.
However, the other consolation is its speed which facilitates transfer of data at a much faster rate. The group expressed its confidence with its latest ware pointing to the need for more innovation in connectors to satisfy consumers’ demand for usability and size. Intel has expressed its support saying that it will open the avenue for smaller or thin devices such as tablets, smartphones and other related devices.
