Stolen Smartphones Can Now Be Blocked Even Outside United States

A group representing the wireless industry in the US known as CTIA has announced the completion of adatabase that contains details of stolen phonespresumably from within US. This is a joint undertaking of the US-based carrier networks Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. Unlike the original plan of blocking a stolen unit from being activated within the US territory, the new database now includes the ability to request foreign-based network carriers to also block activation of stolen phones.
This would put a stop to organized groups from sending stolen phones abroad where their serial numbers will not be detected by network carriers outside of the US. Law enforcers have been clamoring for the installation of a kill-switch inside the unit that would allow it to instantaneously deactivate once the device is taken away from its owner. However, the network carriers opposed that idea on the basis of self-interest and the possibility of allowing hackers to disable the phone remotely.
A district attorney, however, thinks the opposition is generally based on the possible loss of revenue from insurancewhere carriers are also engaged into. Foreign-based carriers are expected to expand the coverage of the database with the inclusion of all 3G or 4G/LTE-supported mobile devices. Whether this plan could finally break the crime of stealing phones remains to be seen for now.

The Waiting Time For Playstation 5 Release Will Be Shorter Than PS4

As Sony’s PlayStation 4 is readying its army of consoles for the UK release, the question about a console’s life cycle has cropped up online. Microsoft is said to have answered the query with the 10-year figure for the Xbox One but Sony expects a lower figure for its PS4 console. Sony believes that the fast changing technology and the gamers’ penchant for new iterations contribute to the lowering of the console’s life cycle.
We couldn’t tell if Microsoft shares the same sentiment perhaps because it’s too early to tell or that the festive mood associated with next-gen consoles’ release does not augur well for discussing life-cycles of different consoles. Sony seems to be banking on gamers’ actual use of the console and the period of time required for them to get bored of the console.
Newer technology could also spell a difference about the lifecycle and it is always possible for both Microsoft and Sony to change plans and released new consoles before the new technology passed out. On the part of Sony, this means that the future PlayStation 5 could come out earlier than expected so that waiting time is reduced and playing time is shortened for new titles as they need to be ported again to the new console before the gameplay is resumed.

Twitch Bans PS4 Playroom For Nude Shows, Non-Gaming Related Activity

PlayStation 4, a built-in camera, a Playroom pre-installed app and an account on Twitch is all you needto start streaming, recording and broadcasting anything you can think of including nude and horrifying scenes. That’s before non-game-related streaming gets banned from Twitch after failing to comply with theterms of service of the latter. A couple had once use the streaming service to record the nudity of his wife in front of a camera.
That video lasted for 15 minutes and by the time it was finished, the woman was completely naked. While it is not yet certain whether the Twitch video-streaming site has a membership complement composed of minors, the Twitch could have served only the adults if it chooses to. The latest “scandal”-like scenario seemed to have alerted the Twitch developers about the possible violation of its online terms and condition. It moved finally to ban the couple from Twitch and to disallow uploads that are not game-related.
This could be the first case for Twitch who has publicly announced the temporary banning of non-game-relatedcontents until such time that users become responsible enough to comply with the site’s terms of conditions or mature enough to handle their streaming account with Twitch. Until such time comes, Twitch is currently monitoring users’ activities online to exercise its right to suspend user’s account whenever there is continued violation of the terms.

PS4 Games Price Cut on Europe at £55, Still Expensive

PS4-bound games will have a price cutback before the next-gen console hits the EU shores but this appliesonly to those sold on PSN. The price adjustment for the region was made possible with the activation of the European version of the PlayStation Network (PSN) which begins its rollout in less than 48 hours.
Game developer, EA is selling Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14 for £63 apiece – which is equivalent to $103. The same games are sold for £55 ($90) on Microsoft’s Xbox One. The price for these games were lowered by £3 according to reports though still high compare to Xbox One.
Sony has hinted that everything about its PSN (European) is still temporary but preorders are continuing anyway. Those who have pre-ordered at standard prices are sure to get a refund once the prices drop. The price adjustments will continue until the PS4 launches in Europe this Friday, November 29 which means that the company is still looking at a possible lowering of prices of some, if not most, of Sony-PSN games.
It is a big relief for existing and prospective owners who have already expressed their disbelief about high price of popular titles such as NBA Live and Assassin’s Creed 4. Ubisoft has explained that the price differential is due to the unique pricing matrices utilized by both Microsoft and Sony. Meanwhile, gamers who bought digital PS4 games shall be refunded of the difference in case the price is lowered before launch.
