iPad Air Explosion Causes User Concerns, Apple Still Mum

We now have the first case of an exploding iPad Airwhen one from an Australian store suddenly filled the room with smoke and sparks emanating from the device. Fortunately, no one was hurt and no damage to property reported except for the iPad Air itself. The tablet was completely charred without the possibility of resurrection and an Apple worker appeared to recover the blackened tablet for an official investigation which may include a dissection of the parts inside to identify the culprit.
However, somebody or something has to be blamed initially and the tablet’s overcharge protection mechanism takes the blame for now. The tablet’s Lithium polymer battery is prone to exploding if already overcharged and the protection circuit is there to prevent it from happening. Unfortunately for this device, the circuit could have malfunctioned or it might have been installed in a careless manner, thus causing the explosion.
Exploding smartphones is already a common occurrence but for a whole tablet is something unusual. Again, blame it on the battery or the protection circuit for now as Apple is yet to make an official statement about the incident. It’s the first case though after the company’s release of new iPad models beginning this month. Apple needs to identify if it is the circuit’s fault or that of the tablet’s assembler. Stay tuned.
