Apple Will Receive $888 Million Against Samsung If It Wins

Apple’s legal entanglement with Samsung is far from over even when the $1 billion damage award was already handed down by the jury last year. The latest retrial drama arose from the faulty calculation of a portion of that amount representing the actual issue on the case which is $450 million. Apple insisted that the correct figure should have been $380 million with Apple sticking to $52 million which was later increased to $290 million.
If the jury finds the latter correct, it will be added to the amount not subject to the retrial which $598 million is bringing the total to $888 million. The final amount is lower than the original $1 billion award but Microsoft has pointed out that it is not about the money or the patents but the issue is about innovation and the hard work that its people had exerted to make it a reality. The jury is still deliberating on the correct number although the Patent Office (US) has revised its ruling on the so-called “Steve Jobs patent” last month.
As both companies await the final ruling on the amount, the aspect of the decision about the infringement remains “as-is” for now. The case stemmed from a patent infringement committed by Samsung regarding some features of a smartphone which the company failed to acknowledge Apple as the rightful owner.
