Months after Huawei’s Ascend Mate debuted at CES, the Shenzhen-based tech company is back to the drawing board. Apparently, Huawei is planning to release a similarly huge display handset to succeed the Ascend Mate. Dubbed as Ascend Mate 2, the phablet sports a ginormous 6.1-inch touchscreen IPS display with bumped 1080p resolution. What more can we expect? Read on.
Listed hardware specifications should obviously be taken with a grain of salt and could change once the device hits the market. Starting off with the processor, the next-gen Ascend Mate would be quite similar with the Ascend P6S carrying the latest Kirin910 chipset with quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 processor, Mali 450 graphics and possibly 2GB on-board RAM. Take note that there isn’t a big jump in specs considering that Huawei is a big fan of providing affordable handsets to the public.
The Ascend Mate 2 is still powered by Android (Jelly Bean) with EMUI 2.0 interface and 16GB internal storage. We could assume that the basic connectivity like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, expansion card support and possibly NFC will be added to compete with other handset models on its niche. Leaked shots of the smartphone could provide the visual evidence we’re looking for to prove Ascend Mate 2′s existence but still, it’s insufficient until the announcement comes from the horse’s mouth. More details are expected to come in the following weeks.
