Dell Sputnik 3 Laptop For Developers Now Available For Hefty Price

Linux developers can check Dell’s latest Sputnik 3. It’s the company’s third XPS 13 laptop customized for developers. The new Sputnik ultrabook has more advanced specs than its predecessors and will replace the current XPS 13 Developer Edition.
The Sputnik 3 is powered by Intel’s 4th-gen processor (Haswell) and the latest Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS. The premium configuration has Core i7-4500UU Haswell chip, 4MB cache with 3.0GHz clock frequency, 8GB on-board RAM, Intel HD graphics 4440, 256GB SSD storage, 13.3-inch touch-enabled display with 1080p resolution, LED-backlit display, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
Customers might also want to order the build-to-order configuration with lower Core i5-4200U Haswell processor with 3MB cache, 2.6GHz clock frequency and 128MB SSD storage.
The first XPS 13 Developer Edition (Sputnik 1) was launched a year ago through “skunkworks” project carried out by small community of developers aiming to break from established traditions. Pairing a Haswell chip with Linux OS is a prime example. A few months after launching Sputnik 1, Sputnik 2 came to life with better screen resolution and then came the third Sputnik iteration with powerful hardware attributes.
The all-new Dell Sputnik 3 series is currently available in the US with the Core i7 version for $1549.99 while the Core i5 version starts at $1249.99. Other countries including Canada, UK and the rest of Europe will receive it in the weeks to come.
