Sony is proud to announce that its next-gen video gaming console PlayStation 4 has sold more than a million units during the launch date or just 24 hours after its release in the wild. This figure only coversNorth America as other areas are yet to report their own numbers. While it may not surpass the figuresfrom smartphone releases, it is already a good trend on the possibility of disposing off at least five million units before the company closes the fiscal year by the end of March 2014.
Sony’s PS4 now holds the record of being the fastest selling PlayStation in the company’s history and yet the stores are already showing the “sold out” signs due to lack of additional supply. The rival next-gen console from Microsoft, theXbox One is to be released in less than a week and it is hard to predict what the number will be given the fact that both consoles are very popular among their respective loyalists.
Experiences of early buyers are mixed with some unable to log-on to the PlayStation Network due to server capacity limitation while others reporting the arrival of a “dead” console on their doorsteps. It remains to be seen, however, if the number will increase in the coming weeks so that a clear sales pattern could be seen. What do you think?
