Chinese techies with deep pockets might be interested in getting one of Samsung’s luxuryclamshell model, the SCH-W2014. Hailing as the most powerful flip phone in the market, the W2014, could turn heads because of its Snapdragon 800 processor but more so, due to its price tag.
The latest China-bound flip phone was unveiled by Samsung and China Telecom, one of China’s leading mobile networks during the annual “Heart Of The World” charity concert held in Nanjing. The W2014 has striking resemblance with other Samsung clamshells including the W2013 and the recently announced Galaxy Golden.
First off, the W2014 has a pair of 3.7-inch Super AMOLED panels, each with 800 x 480 resolution. Under the hood sits Qualcomm’s quad-core 2.3GHz processor, Android 4.3 (possible upgrade to KitKat), 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, dual-SIM, 32 GB internal storage, micro SD expansion card support, 1900mAh battery and various network support including CDMA2000 800/1900 and GSM 900/1800/1900.
It is praised for having good overall design – the handset is compact and lighter than previous flip phone models at just 173.5 grams. On the negative side, the W2014 is criticized for having the plastic look and feel of the hinge.
Interested consumers may need to shell out a whopping 10,000 RMB ($1,640) to get the all-new Samsung W2014. No release date announcement was made as of this writing.
